Past Scholarship Winners

2016 WSLEA Scholarships continue to support the community

Stephanie Renz-Isaac has been a CNA at Horizon Hospice for four years and will be pursuing her nursing degree through Spokane Community College.  Stephanie is the daughter of WSLEA Past Chairman and current Board Member Mark Renz of Spokane County.

Victoria Burnett is currently attending Central Valley High School with an accumulative grade point average of 3.72.  Victoria is a member of the National Honor Society and her goal is to acquire a degree in graphic and web design from Spokane Falls Community College.  Victoria is the granddaughter of WSLEA Treasurer Dick Collins from Spokane County.

Michelle Sirois attained her CNA certificate, followed by an AA degree with an emphasis in Human Development/Sociology.  Having worked within the medical field for the past 10 years, Michelle will be attending Wenatchee Valley College to complete the nursing program and obtain a Nursing degree.  Michelle is the daughter of WSLEA Chairman Pete Sirois from Omak.

Jeffery Scott Wiyrick graduated from University High School in Spokane and he is attending OXARC School of Welding, with the goal of attaining certifications in welding and related subjects, followed by CDL classes.  Jeffery is the grandson of WSLEA Board Member Dave Wiyrick from Spokane County.

Sophie Nevin graduated from the Tacoma School of the Arts as a dance major with a minor in technical theatre.  She has been attending Bennington College in Vermont and will be graduating with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, with a major in Dance composition and a minor in literature and psychology.  Sophie is the granddaughter of WSLEA Past Chairman and current Board Member Bruce Morrison from King County.

2015 WSLEA Scholarships awards

Jeffery Scott Wiyrick graduated from University High School in Spokane and he will be attending Spokane Community College this fall, with the goal of attaining an Associate degree in welding and related subjects.  Jeffery is the grandson of WSLEA Board Member Dave Wiyrick from Spokane.

Sophie Nevin graduated from the Tacoma School of the Arts as a dance major with a minor in technical theatre.  She has been attending Bennington College in Vermont and will be graduating with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, with a major in dance composition and a minor in psychology.  Sophie is the granddaughter of WSLEA Past Chairman and current Board Member Bruce Morrison from King County.

2014 WSLEA Scholarships awards

Keely Rosenthal believes that having both of her parents in law enforcement has shown her how to succeed with hard work and determination and she has strived to be a well-rounded student throughout high school.  She will be attending Johnson and Wales University in Denver this fall, majoring in hotel and lodging management, as her goal is to have a career in hospitality.  Keely is the daughter of WSLEA member Jack Rosenthal with Spokane County.

2013 WSLEA Scholarships awards

Avery Kathleen Smith graduated from North Central High School in Spokane, WA with a 3.889 GPA.  Avery is a three sport varsity athlete and has been a soccer youth referee since 2009.  She will be attending Whitworth University this fall, pursuing a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology with a a criminal justice track, as her goal is to work in law enforcement.  Avery is the daughter of WSLEA member Matthew Smith with Spokane County.

Marissa McClane graduated from Puyallup High School in Puyallup, WA.  Marissa has been managing the boy’s basketball team, and has been very involved in her leadership class.  She will be attending the University of Washington Tacoma in the fall for prerequisites, transferring to the UW Nursing School for her degree.  Marissa is the daughter of WSLEA member Jeff McClane with Auburn.

Bryce A. Morrison graduated from Sumner High School and is attending Western Washington University, with an emphasis toward a degree in Engineering.  Bryce is the grandson of WSLEA Past Chairman and current Board Member Bruce Morrison from Newcastle, Washington.

Michael Andrew Gould graduated from Bonney Lake High School and obtained his AA degree from Tacoma Community College.  Michael is currently attending the University of New Mexico and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice.  Michael is the son of WSLEA member Andrew Gould with Auburn.

Cameron M Bear and Kaylan M Bear are sharing the final college scholarship award for 2013.  Cameron is currently attending Western Washington University, pursuing a degree in Economics.  Kaylan is currently attending Pierce College, pursuing an AA degree in Communications.  Cameron and Kaylan are the son and daughter, respectively, of WSLEA member Kyle Bear with Auburn.

2012 WSLEA Scholarship awards

Bryce A. Morrison graduated from Sumner High School in Sumner, Washington June 13, 2012.  He will be attending Western Washington University in the Fall of 2012, with an emphasis toward a degree in Business.  Bryce is the grandson of WSLEA Past Chairman and current Board Member Bruce Morrison from Newcastle, Washington.

John Burris is attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree in Professional Aeronautics with a minor in Aviation Safety.  John is the son of WSLEA Past Chairman and current Board Member Mike Burris from Enumclaw, Washington.

2011 WSLEA Scholarship awards

Alexis Marissa Karnofski from Auburn, Washington.  She will be attending Southern Oregon University in the Fall of 2011.  Alexis is the daughter of WSLEA member Robert J. Karnofski from Covington, Washington.

Sheldon L. Lessard from Bellingham, Washington.  He is a gradute of Emerald Ridge High School and is attending Western Washington University.  Sheldon is the son of WSLEA member S.W. Lessard from Bellingham, Washington.

Jason Brodhagen from Reardan, Washington.  He is attending Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.  Jason is the son of WSLEA member David Brodhagen from Reardan, Washington.
