Line of Duty Death Notification
We regret to inform you of the line of duty death of Kittitas County Deputy Ryan Thompson, on March 19, 2019. Our thoughts and prayers are with the community, friends, family, and co-workers of Deputy Thompson, may he rest in peace. Kittitas Officer Benito Chavez was wounded in the shooting and is currently recovering. We pray for his swift and complete healing.
The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Department issued the following press release:
A Memorial Service for Kittitas County Sherriff’s Deputy Ryan Thompson will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the Nicholson Pavilion, 715 E, Dean Nicholson Blvd., on the Central Washington University Campus in Ellensburg, Washington. Deputy Thompson gave the ultimate sacrifice and ended his watch on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
Deputy Thompson was born in 1976, grew up in Walla Walla, and graduated from Central Washington University in 2003. He began his law enforcement career as a Reserve Deputy with the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), then worked as a Corrections Officer with KCSO, before joining the Central Washington University Police Department. He returned to the KCSO in 2013 as a patrol deputy. Deputy Thompson provided 14 years of exceptional service to Kittitas County as a law enforcement professional. He is survived by his wife and their three children.
